Liftline is a Shopify app operated by American Marketing GK ("we", "us"). It adds a cart drawer, product recommendations, bundles and discount messages to Shopify stores, and reports how they perform. This policy explains what information Liftline handles when a merchant installs it, and when shoppers visit a store that uses it.
Liftline is designed to work without personal information about shoppers. We don't collect shoppers' names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses or payment details, and we never sell information.
Information about merchants
When a merchant installs Liftline, Shopify gives us access to the store through its API. We store:
- Store details: the store's Shopify domain and ID, its currency and time zone, and whether it is on Shopify Plus.
- An access token issued by Shopify, so Liftline can act on the store's behalf.
- Settings the merchant chooses in Liftline, such as cart drawer layout, bundles and discount messages. Most are saved in the merchant's own Shopify store as app data.
To provide its features, Liftline also reads and, where needed, writes store information through the Shopify API: products, collections, automatic discounts, the cart's pricing function, and bundle products it creates at the merchant's request. Products and discounts stay in the merchant's Shopify store.
Liftline signs merchants in with Shopify. We don't store store staff members' names or email addresses.
Information about orders
To measure what Liftline earns a store, Shopify sends us order notifications. We keep only what attribution needs:
- the order's ID, date, total and whether it was a test order;
- for each item: its ID, quantity, price, discounts, and the hidden tag Liftline added when the item was added from one of its widgets;
- refunds and cancellations of those items (quantities and amounts).
To recommend products that are frequently bought together, Liftline reads which products appear together in the store's recent orders. Order notifications are limited to these fields, so we don't receive customer names, contact details, addresses or payment information.
Liftline is billed through Shopify by monthly order volume, so we report each store's order count to Shopify's billing system.
Information about shoppers
On stores that use Liftline, its widgets record when an offer is shown, clicked or added to the cart. Each event includes:
- which widget and offer it was, the product and variant, the quantity and price;
- the time;
- a random identifier for the page view, and the anonymous browser identifier Shopify provides to apps (not linked to a customer account).
These events are collected with a Shopify web pixel that only runs when the shopper allows analytics, wherever the store's consent settings require it. They're used to show the merchant how each offer performs, in totals only. When items are added from a Liftline widget, a hidden tag is added to the cart line so the order can be attributed later. The cart drawer also remembers, for the browsing session only, gifts that couldn't be added.
Like any website, our servers see the IP address and browser details that come with each request. Liftline doesn't store them with events.
How we use information
- To run Liftline's features in the merchant's store.
- To show merchants their offers' performance and the revenue they bring in.
- To bill merchants through Shopify, according to their order volume.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to provide support.
We don't use this information for advertising, we don't build profiles of shoppers, and we don't combine one store's data with another's.
Who we share information with
We don't sell or rent information. We share it only with the service providers that run Liftline:
| Provider | What for | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Hosting, storage and processing | United States (us-east-1) |
| Shopify | The platform Liftline runs on, sign-in and billing | Shopify's locations |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the security of the service.
How long we keep information
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Shopper events as received | 90 days, then deleted automatically |
| Daily performance totals | While the app is installed |
| Attributed order items | About 13 months, so later refunds can be matched |
| Frequently bought together results | 30 days, refreshed daily |
| Access token | Deleted when the app is uninstalled |
| Everything else about the store | Deleted when Shopify asks us to, 48 hours after uninstalling |
Settings saved in the merchant's Shopify store as app data are removed by Shopify when the app is uninstalled. Bundle products Liftline created are the merchant's products and remain in their store.
Requests from shoppers and merchants
Shoppers can ask the store they bought from to access or delete their data. Shopify passes those requests to Liftline. Because Liftline holds no information that identifies a shopper, there is nothing for us to return or erase, and we confirm that to the store.
Merchants can ask us for a copy of their store's data, or for it to be deleted, at any time by emailing us. Uninstalling Liftline deletes it automatically as described above.
Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your information. Contact us and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Roles
For shopper and order information, the merchant decides why it's collected and Liftline processes it on their behalf, as their service provider. For merchant account and billing information, we are responsible for it.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted to the systems that need it, and Shopify's notifications are verified before we use them. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the information we hold.
Children
Liftline is a business tool for merchants and isn't directed at children.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let installed merchants know in the app.
